12/09/1969 - Photo: Mr. and Mrs. Angelo Scopel of Cadogan celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary at the Latin American Club, Ford City. The couple were married Nov. 15, 1919 in SerenDel Groppa, Italy, and the December celebration was for the assembly of their four sons and families: Mr. & Mrs. Emilio Scopel of Cadogan, Mr. & Mrs. Ennio Scopel of Bel Air, MD, Mr. & Mrs. Walter Scopel of Raleigh, NC, and MR. & Mrs. Angelo Scopel Jr. of Cadogan. The couple have 18 grandchildren and now are each 75 years old. Mr. Scopel is a retired coal miner of the Allegheny River Mining Company mine, Cadogan.
12/09/1969 - Kittanning Town Council last night ratified purchase of land for a fifth off-street parking lot, in a meeting fraught with worry over how to make financial ends meet. Local tax bodies are being informed that taxable property taken for redevelopment may result in higher taxes for other Kittanning real estate owners. Expenditures for 1970 are exceeding income by as much as $21,000.
12/09/1969 – Local tax collector James Ellermeyer wrote letters to Kittanning Council, Armstrong County School District, and county officials concerning repercussions of the property take-over near Armstrong County Memorial Hospital. Ellermeyer called the Armstrong County Redevelopment Authority “deceptive”. At the time of taking property for Armstrong Court (high-rise) and Allegheny Manor Plan several years ago, the authority collected a pro-rata portion of annual property taxes from previous owners and never turned the taxes over to the local bodies.

12/09/1964 - The oldest house north of what is now Union Avenue (Old Cemetery Lane) in Kittanning occupied during his entire lifetime by Attorney John W. Rohrer Jr. was sold this week by his heirs.
12/09/1964 - Warren C. Dosch of West Kittanning, a junior at the music department of Indiana University of Pennsylvania, attended the annual conference of Pennsylvania Music Educators Association in Harrisburg. He represented the IUP student chapter of the association, of which he is secretary-treasurer. Dosch also has been elected president of the Music Club of the college.

12/09/1954 - Ford City: A run-off election will be necessary to determine winners of three offices in the Ford City Glassworkers Union, it was announced after ballots were counted. Run-off balloting will take place Dec. 21 for the offices of president, vice president of Works 4 and innerguard.
12/09/1954 - Freeport’s Century-old Central Hotel has been purchased by Mr. and Mrs. John Bray of New Kensington for $18,000, Armstrong County courthouse records show. Announcement of the sale was made last week by owner Mrs. Clara Rumbaugh.
