The government has 600 census jobs available in Armstrong County, but has only been able to find enough workers to fill 180 of them.

Don Palmer said Armstrong County is having a difficult time recruiting workers for the 2020 Census.
That was the word Tuesday night from Armstrong County Complete-Count Chairman Don Palmer following a strategy meeting at the Belmont Complex.
“The pay is $16 per hour for a part-time position.”
Palmer stressed the importance of local residents completing the census.
“The census determines how much funding our state and local governments receive based on population. Some of the programs include WIC and the children’s insurance programs.”
Palmer said hiring must take place over the next 16 days in order to have all the workers trained.
“They will start training to do door knocking to reach people who don’t respond by mailing or internet,” he said. “The training lasts for two days.”
Palmer said there is a tent city in Armstrong County. Those individuals do not have an address and will need a personal visit to achieve an accurate count.
