10/22/1969 - Former London Resident Revels in Area’s Autumn. A descriptive article extolling the autumn beauty of Kittanning area woodlands appeared in today’s paper. It was written by Laura Wolfe.

10/22/1969 - Groundbreaking ceremony for the new Jamesway Department Store complex being built along Route 422, near the Cadet Restaurant, was held yesterday at the site.

10/22/1969 - Approximately a half-million persons will have visited Crooked Creek Park this year, according to attendance for the first nine months of 1969.

10/22/1969 - Patience, people, water is on the way. This was the encouraging outlook for cross-river residents of this vicinity today as operations accelerated on construction of Kittanning Suburban Joint Water Authority’s new public water supply system. Equipment was moved into place approximately two blocks above the Kittanning bridge this morning for installation of riverbed under-water pipeline to carry water from Armstrong Water Company’s system in Kittanning to two reservoirs where water will be stored at North Buffalo Township high point off Pony Farm Road.

10/22/1969 - Some 21 high school students of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kittanning have formed a “sing out” group. The young people will be primarily a folk song group, singing periodically at the church’s regular and special services. Pastor Dr. Robert Thurau said such music has been presented and the congregation has responded favorably to it.

10/22/1969 – Kittanning Township building contractor Harold C. Graham announced today his intention to make a write-in bid for re-election of the 4th magisterial district. He has been a justice of the peace for the past 12 years. He is fire chief of Kittanning Township, an officer in Rupp Lutheran Church, and sells insurance as a sideline to his contracting business.

10/22/1964 - The Kittanning Chamber of Commerce took a step today designed to solidify further sense of united community effort between Ford City and Kittanning. The name of the Chamber was changed from Kittanning Area and is to be hereafter the Kittanning-Ford City Area Chamber of Commerce.

10/22/1964 - Part of a huge retaining wall supporting Kittanning Cemetery land, along Troy Hill Road, will be removed to eliminate hazardous conditions. Albert E. Pryde, secretary of Kittanning Cemetery Association, said the frost last winter caused part of the road to crack and push forward.

10/22/1959 - A young deer, which wandered off the East Kittanning hillside, finally escaped bewildering surroundings along Jacob St. when it dodged automobiles and spectators across town to the Allegheny River.

10/22/1959 - Dredging is in progress here to remove a gravel bar at the lower end of Allegheny River Lock No. 7.

10/22/1959 - Members of Kittanning Junior Chamber of Commerce will distribute posters in the Kittanning area urging residents to vote in the Nov. 3 election.

10/22/1954 - Flood control projects along the Allegheny River watershed saved the Kittanning area an estimated $275,000 in district damages during the flash flood the past weekend, the Pittsburgh District Corps of Engineers announced.

10/22/1954 - Workmen are dismantling an old dwelling at Mulberry and South Jefferson Sts., which for years served as living quarters for nurses who worked at Armstrong County Memorial Hospital.

10/22/1954 - Residents of Kittanning, West Kittanning and Applewold boroughs, contend they are financially unable to pay school per capita taxes, will be required to file a formal petition for exoneration.

10/22/1949 - Fire of unknown origin destroyed $100,000 worth of property at the Hicks Coal Company mine near Bagdad.

10/22/1949 - State police received reports that a group of unidentified persons damaged four truckloads of coal on the highway south of Distant. Windshields were reported broken on four other trucks hauling along the route south of Distant.

10/22/1934 - State police and highway patrolmen from a dozen Western Pennsylvania substations arranged themselves at strategic points in this and surrounding counties after the reported sighting of Pretty Boy Floyd, America’s No. 1 gunmen, at Kittanning.

10/22/1929 - Committees have been appointed to handle preparation of the home talent play, The Womanless Wedding. The play is sponsored by the Auxiliary of Kittanning General Hospital.

10/22/1929 - Workmen of West Penn Power Railways Company are putting new rail on a curve at Market and McKean Streets, The old rail has been in continuous service since trolleys began operation 30 years ago.
