The Kitchen Crew at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church includes: Pastor Jonathan Rosnick, Matthew Cornman (Mosgrove), Kathy Vargo (Ford City), Carol Cecchi (Manor Twp), Darlyn Barnett (Kittanning), Betty Piccoli (Ford City), and Diane Laughlin (Fenelton).
A quarterly community dinner was held last Saturday by the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Kittanning.
Pastor Jonathan Rosnick said providing a free meal to the community was more than just food.
“As a church, we exist for our community. This is a way to tangibly be a part of the community and open our doors to people who otherwise wouldn’t come,” he said. “It is certainly a call of the Gospel that we take the love of Christ out. Sometimes the way we do that is to serve. This is an opportunity for us to do that.”
Rosnick has only been the minister at St. Paul’s since June, but said he was impressed with the generosity of the membership.
“(The Kitchen Crew) are all members of our church. All the food is provided by the church. The members come and prepare and serve the meals.”
The menu Saturday included meatloaf with bacon on top that was furnished by one of the members of the church, potatoes, green beans, cole slaw, and fresh-baked cupcakes for dessert along with a choice of beverages.
There was an obvious absence of a donation box. Rosnick said that is because it is truly a free meal served to anyone who comes, regardless of their financial ability or inability to pay.
“Anyone who comes we serve.”
The meal is provided each quarter. The next meal is scheduled for Saturday, January 18, 2020.
