Both Kittanning and Ford City have had problems with vandalism of public restroom facilities. Both boroughs closed their restrooms while they search for a way to stop the vandalism.
For now Ford City has decided to place handicapped-accessible portable toilets. The one at the trail head of the Armstrong Trail has delighted hikers, walkers, bikers, and others who regularly use the trail.
“We are getting bids for a new roof, hand dryers, and toilet paper dispensers to rehab the existing (restroom) building,” Ford City Council President Carol Fenyes said at the October 14 public meeting. She thanked Dee Simmons who did research for grants.
Councilman Marc Mantini asked if there was going to be measures for security. Councilman Tyson Klukan said that the possibility exists of putting outside security cameras at the restrooms.
