Manor to Raise Work Tax Nearly 50 Percent

Manor Township Supervisors (L-R) “Tag” Hecker, Bob Southworth, and Don Palmer voted last night to advertise an ordinance that work raise the LST tax from $35 to $52 annually on each person who works in the township.

Manor Township supervisors last night voted to advertise an ordinance that would raise the tax employees pay that work in the township.

The tax, is commonly referred to as the “LST” tax, which is an acronym for Local Services Tax.

“Currently our tax is set at $35,” Supervisor Chairman Don Palmer said during the meeting. “Every place else where you go it’s $52. That is the maximum that is allowed by the statute. So we have made the recommendation that we increase it to the $52. Then we will be the equivalent to all the other municipalities around us.”

All employers with work sites within Manor Township are required to deduct the LST from their employees’ pay checks. If a taxpayer is employed in Manor and also for an employer located in another municipality, the taxpayer is only required to pay the tax in the municipality of the primary employer. If both are full-time employment, the taxpayer may choose to pay the tax to the municipality that is nearest in miles to the taxpayer’s home. Taxpayers are not subject to the payment of the LST at more than one place of employment during a payroll period.

The change represents a 48.57% increase to the maximum amount allowed by law for this tax. Supervisors did not say how much additional revenue will be realized by the increase.

Palmer said he intends to call for the final vote to enact the ordinance at the October 17 work session meeting in the Municipal Building at 6PM.
