From the Reporter’s Notebook: Information from Manor Township Meeting

Supervisors conducted several items of business at the Manor Township meeting last night:

• The Armstrong County Conservation District awarded two Low-Volume Road grants to the township. A grant totaling $19,200 will be used for Railroad Street and another one for $14,400 will be used for Stitt Hollow Road. Secretary Jill Davis said, “It is unusual to get both grants within the same year.”

• Chairman Don Palmer and Secretary Jill Davis spent several days surveying street lighting in the township. Palmer stated that the township is in the hole approximately $12,000 for street light payments. West Penn Power provided a map of all of the street lights and Palmer and Davis conducted a visual inspection audit walking the equivalent of 20 miles, according to Palmer.

• Palmer said that while inspecting street lighting, he noticed that there were shrubs and trees that were in front of traffic signs that are creating a safety issue. He stated that letters will be sent to land owners to trim back their foliage or risk fines. He also said that some residents have not installed address markers required by emergency management. He said some were not installed, or they were installed incorrectly. The warning period is now over and land owners can now be fined for not complying with township ordinances.
