9/19/1968 – The worst fire to hit New Bethlehem in six years destroyed an R.M.S. Furniture warehouse resulting in a financial loss of at least $50,000.
9/19/1968 – The Kittanning Trail was included for study purposes for addition to the National Scenic Trails System according to action in the U.S. House of Representatives.
9/19/1968 – John P. Murtha, Democratic candidate for 22nd Congressional District, stopped in Kittanning today on his week-long campaign through Armstrong County. Murtha had breakfast at Clark’s Grill with his lieutenants, including Gerald Shuster, his county campaign manager. Shuster is also president of Young Democrats Club of Armstrong County.
9/19/1968 – The Worthington Presbyterian Church will be dedicating its church building on September 22. With the merger of two churches in 1958, both churches agreed to abandon their buildings and build a new structure at the corner of Gairin Street and Linton Way behind the Worthington Post Office, according to the Reverend R. Paul Beatty.

9/19/1968 – Clyde Julian “Red” Foley of Grand Ole Opry fame, was found dead in a Fort Wayne, IN hotel. He was the father-in-law of singer Pat Boone. He died of natural causes at the age of 58.
9/19/1963 - Armstrong Co. schools show an increase this year of 751 students in kindergarten thru 12th grade, Superintendent C. N. Hanner told members of the county school board at a brief meeting Monday evening. This increase is due, at least in part, to the inclusion in this year’s report of West Leechburg Union District, which was formerly part of Westmoreland Co. Schools.
9/19/1958 - Ford City- Refunds to 27 property owners of Garretts Run and Fairgrounds areas, excluded from the proposed water system in Manor Twp., will be made as “speedily as possible”, members of the Manor Twp. Joint Municipal Authority said today.
9/19/1958 - The Rev. Henry C. Shilling, the Transylvania Bible School instructor injured in a tractor accident in July, suffered a “cardiac arrest” (heartbeat stoppage) as surgeons prepared for his 3rd and final operation at Presbyterian Hospital Tuesday.
9/19/1958 - Freeport- A $1,000,000 financial campaign will be started by Freeport Methodist Church, it was announced today by the pastor, Rev. Samuel Ford. The money will be used to construct a Christian Education Building which is expected to accommodate 200 people.

9/19/1938 - The engineer and brakeman of a New Castle bound freight train were injured, and a locomotive, 3 cars, and a caboose were derailed in a rear end freight train wreck Saturday night along the main line of the Baltimore and Ohio Railway at Echo, near Dayton.
9/19/1933 - The Kittanning Choral Society met in the Episcopal Parish House and elected officers for the coming season. L.G. Bonstein was elected president; Mrs. J.F. Barnes, vice president; Claire Mechling, secretary; Mildred Gibson, assistant secretary; and Dr. J.A. Picard, treasurer. Mrs. C.E .Miller and Mrs. Joseph Henderson are members of the board.
