Students at Divine Redeemer School participated in this year’s Coloring Contest conducted by the Ford City Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4843 in Pattonville.

Denise Russick is the Patriotic Instructor for the VFW Auxiliary that organizes the Coloring Contest as well as the Patriot’s Pen, Voice of Democracy, and Loyalty Day activities.

“The Coloring Contest is held at various VFWs nationwide, but different states have different pictures to color,” Russick said. She said the contest is open to any student in any school, but most of the participation comes from private schools.

The national VFW Coloring Contest was defined as “Americanism”. The topic was “The Flag of America”.

There are three different age groups according to grade that include K-1, 2-3, and 4-5. Submissions from the top three students from each category are forwarded to the District VFW for consideration.
