Local Man Receives High Honors

The Pittsburgh Section of The American Ceramic Society presented the “William S. Bates Award” to Bill Harasty, Mars Minerals, on April 20. Harasty, a 1982 Penn State graduate, has lived in Kittanning since 1999 when he started working at Eljer Plumbingware. He is Product Manager with Mars Mineral and has held positions in the past with Crane Plumbing, PPG Industries, and Swindell Dressler.

The Bates award recognizes individuals who further the efforts of the Pittsburgh Section of the American Ceramic Society as well as the local community. Bates played an important role not
only with the Pittsburgh Section, but also with the National Society. Bates was a member of the section for 48 years, 25 of which he served as counselor.
