Historical Headlines - March 19

3/19/1968 - The Armstrong County Airport Authority received approval of a $11,163 advance planning proposal from the federal government. The funds will be used to finance a site selection study and for the preparation of plans and specifications for construction of a new airport to serve the Armstrong County area. The announcement was made by Congressman John P. Murtha and U.S. Senator High Scott. The approval of the planning grant climaxed 18-months of effort by the Airport Authority to get the project moving again after a sight at Crooked Creek State Park was disapproved in 1966 through the effort of area sportsmen.

3/19/1958 - The continuation of a four-lane highway on Route 422 from near Worthington into that community apparently hinges on the availability of funds.

3/19/1958 - Armstrong received designation as one of only 15 counties in Pennsylvania with an organized Planning Commission.

3/19/1953 - School Building Site Proposal in Balance. Some Kittanning School Board members reported only lukewarm to borrowing.

3/19/1943 - With reports of the initial registration for War Ration Book Two now complete, the office of Price Administration announced that 25,816 cans of processed food were declared “excess” in Armstrong County.

3/19/1938 - An outbreak of petty thievery at Kittanning High School remained a mystery as far as locating the guilty party of parties was concerned.
