Kittanning Man Victim of Fraud

Last week, a Kittanning man’s debit card was used to make nearly $350 worth of purchases about 400 miles away, and police want to find out how.

Pennsylvania State Police troopers said unknown individuals accessed the debit card account number of Brian Shaffer, of West Kittanning, and used it to make seven unauthorized fraudulent charges in the state of New York.

The first fraudulent charge was made at a doughnut shop December 8 with the last four occurring Saturday, Dec. 10. The largest charge was to NYC Taxi in Long Island, and totaled more than $88.

Under current Pennsylvania law, the actor would be charged with a first-degree misdemeanor offense.

To prevent becoming a victim of fraud this holiday shopping season, experts urge card holders to regularly double-check their credit report, monitor shipping transactions, consider digital fingerprinting and match security codes
