West Shamokin Playoff Run Ends in Dramatic Fashion

The West Shamokin Wolves (5-5) put the Heritage Conference and District 6 on notice in their first year by making the playoffs, defeating Ferndale in 2OT last week.

This week the Wolves traveled to Johnstown to take on the Westmont Hilltop Hilltoppers (6-4) in a game that was just as exciting as their past two games that finished in 2OT.

West Shamokin found themselves down 6-0 after a Hilltoppers touchdown, but were able to block the extra-point.

In the second quarter Wolves RB Jacob Szul exploded down the sideline for his first touchdown of the game and the tie at 6-6.

Heading out of halftime the Hilltoppers got the ball first and took about ten minutes off the play clock in what would result in just a field goal. Westmont Hilltop took a 9-6 lead, but it would not stay for long.

Aaron Gray had an excellent return following the field goal to set West Shamokin up with great field position at the Hilltoppers 35 and a few plays later Jacob Szul crossed the end-zone line for his second TD of the day.

Unfortunately for the Wolves Westmont Hilltop would score again making the score 15-12.

The Hilltoppers iced the game with an interception with under two minutes to go and that was all she wrote.

After the game Wolves Head Coach Jon McCullough was proud of his teams performance and their season.

Westmont Hilltop will now go on to face the undefeated Ligonier Valley Rams (11-0).
