Police On-the-Lookout for DUI Drivers this Weekend

Pennsylvania State Police personnel from Troop D and the Kittanning barracks in East Franklin Township will be conducting “roving and stationary” patrols this weekend in various locations.

According to Kittanning Corporal Christopher Robbins, the patrols in Allegheny, Armstrong and Butler County will be to check for motorist driving under the influence of alcohol or other drugs.

Motorists are advised to be aware of their surroundings and to have their license, registrations and insurance cards available should they be requested by police.

Fines of up to $250 and license suspension could also be assessed to motorists that do not move to the lane furthest away from stopped emergency vehicles and/or slow down – stated in the steer clear law.

The DUI checkpoints come two weeks following “Operation Nighthawk” safety patrols throughout the region and in Armstrong County.

According to Pennsylvania State Police Lieutenant Chris Yanoff – the Kittanning station commander -, 450 motorists were stopped in various locations of Allegheny, Armstrong, Butler and Westmoreland Counties September 2 and 3 as they celebrated the Labor Day Weekend, with 279 traffic warnings and 37 DUI arrests made.
