The Armstrong River Hawks varsity volleyball team were section champions last year, and this year they had similar success.
After handing Oakland Catholic their first loss of the season on Tuesday for senior night Armstrong finds themselves tied with the Eagles atop the conference.
River Hawks Head Coach Andrea Lasher is proud of how her has improved throughout the year, but like every team and every season you have your ups and downs.
” It has been a very good season. We have had our ups and downs throughout the season, as everyone does during a season. I’m very proud of these girls, they have worked so hard and we work rigorously in practice to cover the weaknesses that we have. They have made so may good adjustments and we (coaches) see it. It’s those little things that make the difference and they have done that,” Lasher said.
When it comes to the playoffs there are still a lot of unknowns for the River Hawks, because of the parody in their conference.
“The WPIAL board will see who has beaten who and this season there has been a lot of win swapping. North Allegheny and Seneca Valley have lost to each other and others have swapped wins as well. They (WPIAL board) are going to have to really look and re-examine and look at the top teams,” Lasher explained.
Heading into the playoffs Lasher is confident in her team, but she also knows how competitive the River Hawks conference is.
” The top teams can go any which way, it just depends on who is going to bring it and who is going to make less mistakes and that’s who is going to come out on top. There isn’t a dominant team that I have seen. It’s going to go either way.”
The playoffs start this week and you can find the playoff brackets and game times on Tuesday around 2:00 PM on WPIAL.org.
