Richard Duff of Newton (North Carolina) passed away early Thursday August 20, 2015 at Catawba Regional Hospice. Dick was 83 years old.
He was born and raised in Ford City to Dennis Leo Duff and Elizabeth M. Lynch Duff.
Richard joined the U.S. Navy and married his beloved wife of 64 years, Delores M. Griffin Duff. Together they raised four children, Deborah, Richard Jr., Darby (deceased) and Elaine (Cindy Payne).
Dick was a strong influence with three of his four grandchildren, Kristin Macy (Brian), Andrea Wyatt (David), and Jason Mall (Shannon).
His love of Horsemanship lead him to becoming President of California State Horseman’s Association Region 7. He moved to NC with Technibilt and later returned to California.
Dick and Dee returned to North Carolina after he lost a bet, despite his favorite saying “I’m never wrong. Once I thought I was wrong and later found out I was right”
He is survived by his wife; brother, Kenneth; three children; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as many, many friends across the country. His desire to add people to the family include, in this area, Gesell Flores and Amy Sullivan to name but a few.
Dick will fondly be remembered for the love he had for his wife, especially for her cooking, and for his friends and family. As well as, his annoyance with politics, passing out recipes and his love of laughter.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to your favorite charity.
An inurnment graveside service will be held at the North Carolina Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain, North Carolina
Condolences may be sent to the Duff family at Bennett Funeral Service of Conover, www.bennettfuneralservice.com
