State Police Fire Marshals are continuing to investigate a structure fire that damaged a Sugarcreek Township pizza shop last week.

Just before 1AM December 21, volunteers from seven fire companies - including Applewold, East Franklin and Worthington - responded overnight to the fire at Giovonni’s Pizza. The blaze caused approximately $300,000 in damages to the building owned by John and Debbie McAuley of Adrian.

Fire marshals have since said the fire does not appear to be suspicious.

The fire was noticed by a local motorist driving past the location on State Route 268 just after 1AM. At that time, the unidentified motorist saw flames shooting through the roof.

Fire crews were on scene for more than three hours to douse the flames.
