OBIT: Derek “Duke” Birch (Vandergrift)
Derek “Duke” Birch, 63 of Vandergrift, died Monday, July 27, 2015 at his residence in Monroeville.
He was born April 20, 1952 in Kittanning to Claude and Caroline (Klingensmith) Birch.
Derek was a retired carpenter for UPMC Shadyside.
He also was a Vietnam veteran with the U.S. Army, enjoying building stuff, woodworking, running, movies and books.
Most of all, though, he loved his many dogs and enjoyed spending time with his family.
Derek is survived by his son, Bradley (and Melissa) Birch of Monroeville; brother, Dennis (and Kathy) Birch) of Mercer; and two sisters: Claudia (Shoe) and Allen Clark of Vandergrift and Fran and Randy Pearch of Verona.
Derek was preceded in death by his wife Paula (Holizna) Birch, who died in 2004.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9PM tomorrow - Wednesady, July 29, 2015 - at the Mantini Funeral Home in Ford City.
A funeral service will be held at 11AM Thursday, July 30, 2015 at the funeral home.
