VA BUTLER CELEBRATES VOLUNTEERS OF THE YEAR
Locally, volunteers at the 12 Armstrong County Agency on Aging senior centers are being recognized in May
April 12 through 18 is National Volunteer Week, and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) will take the opportunity to thank more than 79,000 citizen volunteers who give back to Veterans every day at local VA medical facilities.
Locally, VA Butler Healthcare will be recognizing and thanking over 300 volunteers for their service of caring for Veterans.
In recognition of this week, VA Butler will hold the 2nd Annual Making Lives Better Volunteer of the Year program to honor a male and female volunteer who exemplify the spirit of volunteering.
Nominated by their peers and VA staff, the nominees for Volunteer of the Year 2015 are: Patrick Trimpey, Charles Jennings, David Cavanaugh, Joseph Gagliardi, Ginger Braho, Linda Trimpey, Mary Lee Kelly, Lorna Whittington, and Sandra Wilder.
“I am always humbled by the depth and commitment of our volunteers and the positive impact they have on the lives of Veterans,” comments John Gennaro, Director. “Our mission remains to honor America’s Veterans by providing exceptional health care that improves their health and well-being. And this exceptional health care would not be possible without our volunteers.”
National Volunteer Week also presents an opportunity for other citizens to join the ranks of appreciative citizens serving Veterans. VA is inviting everyone in the community to explore how they can use their skills and unique assets to thank Veterans with service of their own.
For those interested, VA Butler is currently seeking individuals to fill volunteer assignments for: Drivers, Transportation Schedulers, Community Living Center (CLC) Volunteer Aides and My HealtheVet.
“As a Veteran myself, it is so reassuring to know that there are such caring and dedicated people who want to give back to Veterans,” remarks Paula McCarl, Voluntary Services Coordinator. “All of our volunteers are exceptional, and I am so proud and lucky to work with such wonderful people.”
While located in Butler County, VA Butler Healthcare offers one of its Primary Care Outpatient Clinics in Armstrong County.
