Hempfield Woman Killed in Bell Township Vehicle Crash
A Hannastown (Westmoreland County) woman was killed in a one-vehicle accident along State Route 819 in Bell Township yesterday afternoon.
The incident happened about a half-mile south of State Route 66 - which leads across the Kiskiminetas River to Apollo Borough -
Linda M. Williams, 39, was pronounced death by Westmoreland County Deputy Coroner Timothy P. O’Donnell shortly before 5PM.
Williams was the operator and lone occupant of a 2005 Ford Escape traveling north on State Route 819.
Westmoreland County Coroner Kenneth A. Bacha wrote in his report that Williams crossed the center line into the opposite lane of travel, left the west side of the roadway, hit an embankment and went airborne. The vehicle flipped multiple times before landing on its roof.
Williams was ejected from the vehicle and landed on the west shoulder of the roadway. She was not wearing a seat belt.
Witnesses told Pennsylvania State Police out of the Kiski Barracks Williams was driving erratically and at a high rate of speed prior to the incident.
The cause of death is still pending further investigation, according to Coroner Bacha.
An autopsy will be performed by Dr. Cyril H. Wecht and Pathology Associates later today. Cause and manner of death will be pending autopsy and toxicology results, but toxicology results are not expected to be available for several weeks.
Vaia Funeral Home of Delmont are in charge of funeral arrangements.
