OBIT: Edwin “Duffy” Heilman (Ford City)
Edwin Leard “Duffy” Heilman, 93, of Ford City, died Saturday, March 14, 2015, in the VNA Inpatient Hospice, Butler.
Born September 17, 1921, in Manorville, he was a son of the late Harvey H. Heilman, Sr. and Ida (Bailey) Heilman.
Mr. Heilman was a graduate of Ford City High School, attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II.
He was a member of Appleby Manor United Presbyterian Church and the Ford City V.F.W.
For nearly 50 years, Duffy was the owner and operator of Heilman & Bailey Shoe Store in Ford City, and was a former member of the Ford City Business and Professional Organization. Along with other golf enthusiasts, he was instrumental in starting Lenape Heights Golf Course, and was also a charter member.
He is survived by his daughter, Deborah (James) Patterson of Butler; and two sisters, Jane Rupert of Desert Hot Springs, CA, and Grace Mills of Greensboro, NC.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen M. (Maruk) Heilman, on June 5, 1995; three brothers, Harvey H. Heilman, Jr., William Heilman, and Paul Heilman; and a sister, Mary Owen.
Friends will be welcomed from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, in the Welch Funeral Home in Ford City, where his funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, with Pastor Laurie Milligan officiating.
Interment will be made in Lawn Haven Burial Estates.
