Ticket Sales Strong for Girls` Basketball Benefit
by Jonathan Weaver
Nearly 250 West Hills Primary and Intermediate families will help this Fall’s Armstrong River Hawks girls` basketball teams train for next season’s competition.
Kindergarten through sixth grade girls and a male guardian will attend tomorrow night’s first “Me and My Guy” Dance at St. Mary’s Parish Hall in Kittanning to help raise money for basketball players to go to summer camps and one-day shootouts.
With the theme of “Butterfly Kisses,” Boosters Treasurer Karrie Venesky said more than 240 out of a possible 250 tickets were sold by the March 11 deadline.
“We practically sold out of tickets, so it was a great response,” Venesky said. “It’s a wonderful fundraiser.”
Venesky’s youngest daughter – third grader HannaLyn - will also attend the dance with Hannalyn’s father, Jeff.
Venesky thanked the West Hills PTO for their assistance.
Coach Kirk Lorigan said he was “very pleased and very, very surprised” with tomorrow’s expected turnout. He will be at the dance with his daughters – eight-year-old Mylee and 11-year-old Maci.
As well as dancing, boosters will also sell concession stand food – such as pizza and nachos – tickets for raffle baskets, and a 50/50 drawing.
Girls will receive a free photo with their date and will also be able to take selfies inside the hall.
No tickets will be sold at the door tomorrow evening.
