The driver of a black pick-up truck that rolled on its driver’s side on the boundary of West Franklin Township and Armstrong County yesterday was not injured in the crash.

About 4:12PM, Worthington-West Franklin firefighters and Butler Ambulance crews were called for a one-vehicle crash just west of Mushroom Farm Road.

According to the State Police report - also filed by Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Kaczmarczyk - Samuel L. Beers, 26 of Cadogan - was traveling eastbound when his 1999 Ford Ranger drifted off the roadway. Beers over-corrected and spun 360 degrees before flipping up a hillside and side-swiping utility poles and causing damage to a mailbox and two newspaper boxes.

“When I arrived on-scene, the vehicle rolled over on the side of the road,” Trooper Kaczmarczyk said.

Beers sustained minor injuries, but reportedly refused further medical treatment from Butler Ambulance medical responders.

Trooper Kaczmarczyk determined Beers was not speeding, was sober and competent to drive.

Worthington-West Franklin Fire Chief Randy Bowser responded to the crash and said Beers was safely out of the vehicle upon arrival.

The right lane of traffic was shut down for about 15 minutes during the crash assessment and investigation, and to allow for Bowser Towing crews to remove the vehicle from the roadway.

Beers is to be charged in the crash.

No other motorists were impacted during the crash.

What are the charges if he was determined to be “not speeding, was sober and competent to drive”? Failure to negotiate a straightaway? Something missing in this story.
