New Lines Define Traffic on South Water Street
In addition to Phase Two Revitalization project rerouting traffic on Market Street causing Thursday morning congestion, drivers into Kittanning found more than a 15-minute wait on the bridge to turn onto South Water Street as PennDOT concluded its repaving project.
PennDOT began last night to lay the final “wearing course” of pavement on South Water. However, when the project was still continuing at 8:30 this morning, many motorists were angry at the traffic tie-up.
at 8:45 AM, PennDOT began to lay down the markings that will officially change the traffic pattern to include parking along Kittanning Riverfront Park and a center turn lane.
Crews expected to clear the area by Noon today.

I see accidents almost happen on a daily basis now with people trying to merge everywhere. Traffic is backed up as people are trying to switch into the lane to go across the bridge. Why does Kittanning need more parking along the street? 99% of the time, the lot right across the street is available unless a special event is happening. In that case, who wants to park their car along the street during an event anyway? No thanks. Because of the confusion, it will probably get wiped out parked there.I prefer my car in one piece. What was the problem with the original configuration?

Wow, people have been driving to lines painted on streets for years. Change it some in Kittanning and people get totally confused. What? Tell a cop that when you’re pulled over for passing on two parallel yellow lines that used to have dashed lines for passing and see what the cop tells you. Geez! Cop tells you, “Driver’s license, registration card, and proof of insurance, please.”
