BUFFONE: Weekend Sports Preview

As the weekend approaches, there are plenty of sports in the Pittsburgh area that should turn a person into a comfy couch potato. In football, the Pittsburgh Power will host their second game of the year when they welcome the Iowa Barnstormers. The Power had the highest opening day attendance of any AFL team last week. Kickoff is at 7:30 and can be watched on Pittsburgh CW. In baseball, the Pirates will play preseason games on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday all at 1:05pm. Their opponents include the Phillies, Red Sox, and Astros. Granted that they are still in the tournament, the Pitt Panthers will be playing their second round game in the NCAA tournament this weekend at a time to be determined later. Rounding out the weekend are the Pittsburgh Penguins who will take on the New York Rangers on Sunday at 12:30pm. For a weekend where rain is likely, the sports world should keep you company.

While I thoroughly enjoy your column and the coverage you give to laocal sports I must say I am disappointed in the lack of coverage on a recent red letter date in local sports. Kittanning Freshman Jason Nolf accomplished a feat rarely seen in this are. He capped off an undeafeated wrestling season with a state championship. I would like send my congratulations to Jason and let him know of the pride the entire district has in him.
