There was dark and cloudy weather last Friday, as Lenape Tech opened students’ eyes to the consequences of drunk driving by presenting a mock car accident.
PennDOT Engineering District 10, in partnership with Lenape Tech, ARIN Intermediate Unit 28, the Indiana and Armstrong Drug and Alcohol Commission, State and Local Police and the Indiana Regional Highway Safety Center, hosted a Teen Driver Safety Challenge and Mock Crash in an effort to reduce the number of teen-related crashes.
During the event, teen drivers were given the opportunity to rotate through nine driver safety educational stations including driver distractions, crash reconstruction, car fit, large truck no-zones, remote control challenge, pre-driver check, DUI checkpoints, fake identification, and seat belt safety.
The driver distractions station provided teen drivers with the opportunity to safely attempt to drive while texting through the use of driver simulation. The SADD organization also held a mock car crash during which students witnessed the consequences of unsafe behavior while driving. Actors for the mock car crash were Evan Waitkus, Devon Rosenburger, Alyssa Zemko, and Brittney Lewis.
After the mock crash was over, students went inside the school to hear some words of warning from Armstorng County Coroner Bob Bower.
