11/12/1969 – Armstrong County Council of Veterans of Foreign Wars is on President Nixon’s side in his handling of the Vietnam situation. The council, made up of VFW posts at Ford City, Freeport, Kittanning, Leechburg, Parker and Sagamore, went on record at a meeting in Leechburg as unanimously endorsing the President’s policy.
11/12/1969 – Ford City: The purpose of Veterans Day, Armstrong County District Attorney Harvey A. Heilman Jr. told an American Legion audience last night, is to recognize and commemorate those who fought for the lofty ideals for which this country stands.
11/12/1969 – The dedication of a new flagpole took place yesterday at the Ford City VFW Post 4843 at the Post Home at 2025 Bailey Avenue, Ford City. Newly-elected District Attorney D. Dale Claypool presented a flag to Post Commander William Stennett and Trustee Ed Orr. Together, the colors were raised on the newly erected flagpole.
11/12/1969 – Three members of the Kittanning Squadron Civil Air Patrol spoke last night at the Ford City Kiwanis. The speakers were Rev. C. L. Fritz, chaplain of the CAP; Cadet Jeff Colwell and M/Sgt. James Tracy. Colwell and Tracy, teenage members of the program, told of their work. Fritz said the CAP is a federally-chartered volunteer organization.
11/12/1969 – Mr. & Mrs. Omer Nichol of Cherry Street, Worthington, who were married on Nov. 8, 1929, observed their 40th anniversary at a surprise dinner. Their children are: James of Irwin, William of Worthington, Robert of Apollo, and Mrs. Harry (Barbara) Piper of McGrann. Ten grandchildren complete the family circle. Also celebrating their 11th wedding anniversary at the time were Mr. & Mrs. Robert Nichol.
11/12/1969 – Spec. 4 Bernard S. Rairie of Sagamore has received Army Commendation Medal for heroism in Vietnam. He was wounded on three different occasions, among many other awards.
