Director of Nursing Hired for Beacon Hill Facilities

Registered Nurse Peg Shirey has now become the Director of Nursing for Beacon Hill facilities, including the one in Armstrong County.

Beacon Light announced the appointment of Peg Shirey, RN, to the position of Director of Nursing for Beacon Light Adult Residential Services (BLARS) and Beacon Light Behavioral Health System (BLBHS), effective November 2, 2019. She will be responsible for overseeing the provision of medical and nursing care to the individuals served in residential and ambulatory services.

Locally, Beacon Light operates the STRIDE program - Specialized Therapeutic Residence for Intellectual and Developmental Empowerment. It is a residential facility designed for children with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The facility is located at 1214 Freeport Road.

According to Communications Director Dawn Snyder, the facility has been open since April 2019 and has six clients, and has been growing.

Shirey will also support physicians, set nursing policy standards and oversee nursing services provided to individuals across the organizations through consultation with Executive Directors and program managers.

Shirey joined Beacon Light in 2008 as a Registered Nurse at the adult and children’s outpatient clinic in Warren, Pennsylvania and held several nurse management positions prior to her departure in 2012. In 2014, she returned as the Program Director in the Warren Group Homes and became the Nurse Manager for BLARS.

Shirey is a graduate of the Jamestown Community College Associate in Applied Science-Nursing program and will complete a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Eastern Kentucky University of Richmond, Virginia in May 2020.
