09/30/1969 - Cold-feet Bank Robber Leaves Without Money - Pennsylvania State Police today led a hunt for the man who attempted to rob Slate Lick Branch of First National Bank of Freeport Monday. No money was taken during yesterday’s holdup attempt, the second time Slate Lick Bank was involved with robbers. Police said teller Karen Emily Wagner, 22, of Sarver Road, was surprised by the bandit about 11:50 a.m., forced into the bank and ordered to open the money vault. Before she could get the vault open, the bandit fled through a rear door.
09/30/1969 – Two teens were injured in motorcycle wreck near Slagle’s Packing House on Troy Hill Road in Rayburn Township. Injured were Roger Crissman, 16, of Templeton RD1, and Terry Bish, 16, of Kittanning RD2. Both boys were treated at hospital and released.
09/30/1969 – Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Labutka of 1113-6th Ave, Ford City, were honored by their children on the occasion of the couple’s 50th wedding anniversary. They are parents of six children: Joseph Labutka and Victor Labutka. Mrs. Josephine Wingard, Mrs. Ann Vojna, and Mrs. Cecelia Grossman, all of Ford City. The couple have lived in Ford City throughout their married life.
09/30/1964 - Fire Companies from South Buffalo Township and Freeport fought for over an hour and a half in an unsuccessful attempt to save a large barn containing building supplies and valuable equipment belonging to Kenneth S. Bricker. The structure is a few hundred feet off Route 28, at Slate Lick.
09/30/1959 - One of the last of Armstrong County’s old-time fiddlers, Marshall Lee Wolfe, 86, died this morning at Lutheran Old Peoples Home, Zelienople, where he resided for the past two years. Wolfe also was well-known for his weather forecasting which appeared monthly in the newspaper.
09/30/1959 - State Highways Department employes are grading relocated curves at 5th Ave, Ford City. Repaving of the thoroughfare is expected to begin this week.

09/30/1939 - John Finnin of Leechburg is receiving treatment for a serious eye injury, received when he was struck by the handle broken from a battery he was lifting from an automobile. His glasses were shattered by the impact of the object, and it is feared a piece of his eyeglasses penetrated the cornea.
