Butler Police Conduct Suicide and Arson Investigation

Pennsylvania State Police Butler responded to a residence in Allegheny Township, Butler County yesterday morning at 7AM for the report of a PFA violation.

A 42-year-old unidentified woman with a Parker address related to a 9-1-1 dispatcher that she had an active Protection From Abuse (PFA) against an unidentified 48-year-old man and that he was currently at her residence with a rifle. When she was on the phone with 9-1-1, the man exited the residence walking towards a detached garage. The woman heard a single gunshot and then saw smoke coming from the detached garage. The woman was able to get to a neighbor’s residence for assistance.

Upon arrival, Trooper Jessica Titler reported that members of the Pennsylvania State Police secured a perimeter and cleared the main residence, determining that the man was most likely inside the now fully engulfed detached garage.

Upon Fire units being allowed entrance to the scene, the fire was successfully extinguished. Soon hereafter, human remains were discovered in the fire debris, along with pieces of a rifle.

The investigation is continuing pending dental records.
