Demolition crews brought down the entire back of the former Long John Silver’s building yesterday. A new Taco Bell restaurant will be constructed on this site.
“I couldn’t believe how far they got in just one day!”
That is how East Franklin Township Codes Officer Greg McKelvey reacted to demolition crews just starting yesterday to bring down the former Long John Silver’s restaurant.
“The entire rear of the building has been demolished. Only the front and partial side is still standing,” McKelvey said.
As first reported in the Kittanning Paper, Charter Central, LLC of Talbott, Tennessee, owns the franchise for Long John Silver’s, Kentucky Fried Chicken, and Taco Bell. The company decided to demolish the Long John Silver’s building and build a new building that will house a new Taco Bell restaurant. The restaurant operator would then move Taco Bell out of the current location with Kentucky Fried Chicken and remodel the current Kentucky Fried Chicken building.
McKelvey told East Franklin Township supervisors last night that Bartlett Signs, Inc. has already applied for permits to erect new signage following the erection of the new Taco Bell, and new signage once Kentucky Fried Chicken is remodeled.
“They came with architectural drawings and wanted to move quickly on both locations,” McKelvey said.
McKelvey did not know when the new Taco Bell would open.

The front of the former Long John Silver’s restaurant starts to collapse as the building is being razed. A new Taco Bell restaurant will be built in its place.
