Woman Killed Crossing Highway in Rayburn Township

Sylvia Jean Denslow, 53, of New Kensington, was fatally injured when she tried to cross State Route 28/66 in the vicinity of Bench Racers Store in Rayburn Township.

Denslow was in a wheelchair leaving Bench Racers. She was struck by a 2009 Ford F-150 pickup driven by Roger Crissman of Cowansville. Crissman was traveling north in heavy fog with limited visibility when he struck the subject.

Denslow was pronounced dead at the scene by Armstrong County Coroner Brian K. Myers. Autopsy will be completed later today. Toxicological results will not be available for several weeks.

Deo Beck, who owns Dentici Produce across the street, stated on the WTYM morning show today that there was an unidentified man who was pushing the wheelchair who had abrasions on him, but was not significantly injured.

The incident is still under investigation by the Coroner’s Office and Pennsylvania State Police, Kittanning. No funeral home information is available.

In addition to the Coroner and State Police, Rayburn Township and Kittanning Township fire departments assisted at the scene in addition to Kittanning Ambulance and PennDOT.

This incident took place this morning at approximately 5:22 AM. It closed Route 28/66 in both directions until about 9AM.
