07/15/1969 –The Greater Kittanning Jaycees has launched a TV program to spread the word about the proposed Armstrong County airport near Worthington. They endorsed the project four months ago, describing it as a “definite asset in attracting new industry and subsequent economic growth.” They videotaped a panel discussion entitled “Airparks Are for People Who Don’t Fly” and plan on airing it on local cable channels.
07/15/1969 – Kittanning police said a desire to watch TV was the reason for the break-in at Central Elementary School over the weekend. At least three people got into the school by breaking a window, then broke into the principal’s office by smashing another window to get a television set. Instead of stealing it, it was hauled from the second floor to the third and across the building to an empty classroom wired for cable reception. There, at least three persons sat in chairs “borrowed” from the teacher’s lounge and watched TV. Nothing was reported missing.
07/15/1969 - Miss Margaret C. Benton, daughter of Arthur C. Benton of Worthington, graduated from Butler County Memorial Hospital School of Nursing.
07/15/1969 - New York: According to a recent tabulation, Armstrong County taxpayers are paying a high price for the benefits their area receives under various federal aid programs. For every dollar that comes back to them from Washington for hospitals, schools, roads, urban renewal, child welfare, and other purposed, the cost to them is $1.24 through income taxes and excise taxes for allocations toward those aid programs.
07/15/1969 – An increase in taxes could be in coming for residents in 17 boroughs of Armstrong County under terms of a bill now in the Legislature. At the present time, 25 mills is the maximum rate borough councils are permitted to levy for general purposed. Under provisions of the bill in the House Committee on Local Government, this tax ceiling would be raised to 30 mills.

07/15/1959 - A seven-room frame house in South Bend - the Robert S. Townsend dwelling - was destroyed by fire. Elderton and Kiski Township firemen battled the blaze for approximately three hours.
07/15/1954 - The Armstrong County Voiture 40 & 8 locomotive will make its public debut when it joins the Labor Day parade sponsored by Ford City Glassworkers Union. Members have spent more than a year constructing the locomotive.

07/15/1954 - The heat wave broke here last night. But high winds that struck in the Armstrong County area twice last night caused damage to trees, shrubs, television antennas, telephone and electrical lines. Midway in the second storm from lightning struck the George Schall barn in Kittanning RD 1, just three hours after Mr. Schall and helpers had completed storing a new wheat crop.
07/15/1949 - Thomas E. Crooks, son of Thomas Crooks Sr. of Distant, who was graduated with high honor from Harvard University in the class of 1949, has accepted appointment as an assistant dean of freshman at Harvard.
07/15/1949 - Old memories will be revived July 29 when 20 girls model swim suits dating back to 1870. The event will take place as a special attraction at the Miss Armstrong County contest being staged in Kittanning High School auditorium.
07/15/1944 - Jobless benefit payments totaling $180 were made through compensation office during the week ending July 14.
07/15/1944 - Mrs. John D. Guthrie of 1301 North Grant Ave., Kittanning, has received word that her son, Lt. William L. Guthrie, was wounded in France and is now a patient in a hospital somewhere in England, where he was taken by plane.
07/15/1939 - A local group will represent this community at the Catholic Ukrainian Day observance to be held tomorrow at West View Park, Pittsburgh. The choir of St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, under direction of Professor Basil Yadiowsky, will join forces with seven other communities in this district to feature presentation of three selections by a massed choir of 500 voices.
07/15/1939 - Two automobiles owned by Philip H. Mervis of 1009 Johnston Ave., Kittanning, were involved in a collision at Market and Water St. Front assemblies of both cars were damaged.
