Two persons died this morning in a two-vehicle crash along Route 28/66 near Wadding Road in Mahoning Township.
The head-on crash occurred at 6AM this morning in the area known as Hogback Hill.
State Police Trooper Tanner Barnhart said a 2016 RAM 2500 truck driven by Tyler J. Zeigler, 26, of Butler was traveling north on Route 28/66. A 2019 Ford F250 truck driven by Mark Kirkpatrick, 59, of Summerville, was traveling south on Route 28/66. Zeigler’s vehicle crossed over the double-yellow line and entered the southbound lane of travel. Zeigler’s vehicle struck Kirkpatrick’s vehicle, causing disabling front end damage to both vehicles.
Zeigler was pronounced deceased on the scene.
Kirkpatrick was transported to ACMH Hospital by the Clarion Hospital EMS and was pronounced deceased at ACMH.
The highway was closed in both directions and traffic was detoured, but was reopened at 10AM, according to a news release by PennDOT.
In addition to the Pennsylvania State Police and the Armstrong County Coroner’s office, Distant, New Bethlehem, and Dayton fire departments assisted at the scene.
