06/07/1969 – Lenape Elementary School located in the Hansotte plan in Manor Township was formally dedicated today in special ceremonies in the multipurpose room of the school. It was built at a cost of $2,528,490.66 and has been open for students since last September when 1,059 students from the Ford City attendance area began attending classes there. It is considered a “village school” since it has three schools within a school. Classrooms are self-contained in which students move to special use areas for art, music, science, remedial reading, physical education, and small auditorium areas when necessary.
06/07/1969 – The Kittanning High School Class of 1969 graduated last night. Susanne Westwood, valedictorian and daughter of Mrs. Ida Westwood, told her audience that the graduates should be more “concerned with the future than the past.” Philip A. Galacek, salutatorian and son of Mr. Mrs. Philip Gelacek, spoke on Robert Frost’s poem, “The Road Not Taken.” He said the road of life may have difficult decisions, may lead to many disappointments, and that many “may have to go back to the crossroads and start again, but each one of us has to assume many responsibilities. Then, and then only, can we look back and regret the road not taken. Craig Thurau, president of the class, thanked the teachers and all those who had helped them. “We shall try to repay you in becoming loyal, responsible citizens in the years to come.”
06/07/1964 – A total 214 Ford City High School seniors will receive diplomas at commencement exercises beginning at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday at the high school auditorium.

06/07/1959 – Clifford H. McCafferty, U.S. Navy recruiter stationed at Kittanning post office, will be rewarded for outstanding work at the station. A superior officer will present the award at a weekly meeting of Kittanning Kiwanis Club.
06/07/1959 – Gov. David L. Lawrence has appointed Kittanning Burgess Charles J. Hoey as director of Civil Defense at Kittanning. The appointment was in keeping with a nomination by Kittanning Town Council.

06/07/1949 – Three men charged with operating a movie on Sunday in Kittanning Township will have a hearing tonight at the office of Squire Karl M. Watt. The owner and two employes of the Community Drive-In Theater, located about seven miles east of Kittanning along Route 422 are charged with violating the Sunday movie law.

06/07/1939 – The driver of one automobile is a patient in Armstrong County Memorial Hospital and two cars are total wrecks as the result of a freak accident in the fog shortly after midnight Monday at the intersection of East Brady and Butler Roads. The two vehicles, said to have been operated by Homer Vogt and Archie Rossman, both of East Brady were traveling together toward Kittanning when the accident occurred. The first car in line apparently ran off the edge of the road, swerved back onto the highway and overturned. The second machine, following close behind, swerved up the side of a steep five-foot embankment and overturned.
