05/24/1944 – Of 70 members of the 1944 class of Freeport High School to receive diplomas in commencement exercises held Tuesday night, nine are in the armed forces. Their diplomas were given to members of their families.

Because of the vastly increased size of the class the site of the annual baccalaureate service, which will be held Sunday evening, has been transferred from the high school auditorium to the new gym.
