According to PennDOT data, 3,955 vehicle crashes occurred on District 10 (Armstrong, Butler, Clarion, Jefferson, and Indiana counties) roadways in 2017.
In the event of a vehicle crash with an unresponsive victim, PennDOT’s Yellow Dot program provides EMS workers with the person’s identity, medical needs, and emergency contacts. A simple PennDOT Yellow Dot decal in the car’s rear window alerts EMS workers to find all vital information in the vehicle’s glovebox.
The public can sign up for the Yellow Dot program on PennDOT’s website, www.PennDOT.gov. Participants will receive a Yellow Dot kit in the mail, which they complete with personal information, including name, contact information, emergency contact information, medical history and medications, allergies and the participant’s doctors’ contact information. Optionally, participants can also include a photo.
Participants place the completed information booklet in the vehicle’s dashboard glove compartment and affix the Yellow Dot sticker, enclosed in the kit, inside the lower left of the vehicle’s rear window.
