05/23/1969 – Seaman Recruit Charles Russ Jr. of 251 North McKean Street, Kittanning, has completed a training course at Great Lakes Naval Training Station, Chicago. After a seven-day leave at home, he will report to Norfolk, VA. A 1965 graduate of Kittanning High School, he is a son of Mrs. Pearl Russ of Oak Avenue, Kittanning, and married to the former Carol Myers of Kittanning.
05/23/1969 – Jeffery Haney, 23, son of Mr. & Mrs. John Haney Jr., of Ford City RD2, was promoted to engineer technician second class. Now on his second seven-month tour of duty in Vietnam, he will have completed his military obligation with the U.S. Navy in April 1970. He is married to the former Myrna Klingensmith of Ford Cliff. She is residing in Honolulu until his return from Vietnam.

05/23/1959 – The beauty of an Oriental month of May and festivities of the season provided a theme for the honoring of Miss Loretta Jordan, 1959 Kittanning High School May Queen and her royal court at the May Day coronation at Kit-Han-Ne Field. Royal scepters were presented to Miss Jordan and King Larry Gowetski by knight of honor David Schrecengost.

05/23/1944 – An Eighth AAF Bomber Station England - A second Oak Leaf Cluster to the Air Medal has been awarded to Second Lt. Frank A. Stennet of Kittanning, co-pilot of a B-17 Flying Fortress for “meritorious achievement” on 15 bomber attacks on enemy Europe.

The team was comprised of James John, captain; Eugene French, Robert Smith, James Seifert, Charles Stennett and Don Schreckengost. R. J. Axton is troop scoutmaster and “Lon” Painter was trainer of the first aid team.
