Senior Citizens Treated to Turkey Dinner

(L-R) Dan Douthett, Judy Crytzer, Megan Brown, and Carol Toy dished out a turkey dinner with all the trimmings from the St. Mary’s Parish Hall kitchen on Sunday afternoon.

The 43rd Annual Kittanning Lions Club Turkey dinner for senior citizens was held yesterday at St. Mary’s Parish Hall in Kittanning.

10-year-old Alex Reesman and 9-year old Gracie Labarko took a break from refilling coffee cups to pose for a picture.

Lion’s Club coordinator Ted Croyle said it turned out to be a large event.

“This is the most we have ever fed. We are going to be close to 600. People were lined up out the door at 11:30,” Croyle said.

To handle the crowd, the Lion’s Club called upon 15 members of the Leo Club from Armstrong High School and about 18 of their members to assist. Preparations began on Friday to have everything ready for Sunday’s meal.

“We ordered 29 turkeys from Sprankles (Supermarket). They cooked them and delivered them. We de-boned them all and put them in sauce. Steffey’s Market made all the stuffing. We made everything else right here,” Croyle said.

The Club fed those who came and stayed for dinner from the main kitchen window, while setting up an auxiliary preparation and dispensing area for those taking out dinners to shut-ins.

The Kittanning Lion’s Club holds the dinner each year between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Susie Fauset, Pat Bellas, and Gloria Carney prepare meals to go to shut-in senior citizens.
