12/11/1968 – The Armstrong School District is applying to the State to build an addition to Shannock Valley High School at a cost of $4,710,869.31. Worthington Elementary School will cost $2,114,830.78.

12/11/1968 – Armstrong County Community Action Agency is funded for 172 preschoolers in five sections of the county for next year in its Head Start program. The federal grant includes an eight-week summer program that will cost between $43,000 and $47,000.

12/11/1968 – Ford City police received a salary increase of $650 for 1969 in accordance with an award handed down after arbitration hearings. The award also included a uniform allowance of $150 per policeman. The police had made 11 demands on the borough: hospitalization, reduction in standard work week hours, paid vacation, uniform allowance, nine paid holidays, paid vacations, longevity pay, social security, life insurance, pay differential depending on shift, and continuation of all existing benefits. Patrolmen involved were John Czekanski, Henry Fijal, Bernard Smulik, and police Lieutenant Stanley Sadeski.

12/11/1968 – Democratic women of Armstrong County honored Mrs. James W. Ellermeyer of Kittanning as Mrs. Democrat of 1968 during a party and installation of officers last night at the VFW in Pattonville. The trophy was presented by Mrs. Gertrude Perry, outgoing president. New officers are: Mrs. James W. White, treasurer; Mrs. John Eisenhuth, secretary; Mrs. George Roofner, new president; and Mrs. Carl Culp, vice-president.

12/11/1968 – James Frick of Adrian and his two sons, Larry, home on two-weeks leave from the Ari Force, and Fred of Kittanning RD3, each killed a deer within a one week period.

12/11/1963 - Kittanning area population of 19476 today is expected to reach 22245 by 1990. The projected population is outlined in a study made by Bellante and Clauss, consultants for Armstrong Co. Planning and Zoning Commsision.

12/11/1963 - Kittanning Junior HS Cagers traveled to Knock Junior HS last night and came home with a 57-24 victory to bring their season standing to 3-0. Kittanning’s Tom Jordan again led all scorers as he pumped in 15 points during the game.

12/11/1958 - An 81 year old Kittanning woman, Mrs. Orpha Silvis of 506 Woodward Ave., who was turned suddenly into a human torch when her clothing caught fire, died in Armstrong Co. Memorial Hospital.

12/11/1958 - John Russo was elected to his 3rd term as president of the Ford City Pottery Workers Union.

12/11/1953 - A Christmas appeal was made by Armstrong Co. Tuberculosis and Health Society for coal stoves for 2 area families who have no heat in their drafty, cheerless homes.

12/11/1953 - Rodd Bixler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul S. Bixler of near Ford Cliff tis on the varsity swimming team at Indiana State Teachers College where he is a freshman student.

12/11/1953 - Sports page headline- Kittanning Cagers meet Leechburg tonight in exhibition contest.

12/11/1953 - Miss Shirley Jean Hill, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas M. Schweitzer of 309 Southern Ave., West Kittanning, left for Pittsburgh and Camp Lee VA, where she will take basic training with the Women’s Army Corps.

12/11/1948 - Harry M. Pollock Co. purchased a 1.5 acre tract of land on which construction of a $150000 warehouse will start.

12/11/1948 - A freight train crashed into a stalled car at Arch St. Hubert G. McGuire of Rimer RD 1 stood in the middle of the track and frantically waved at the approaching train. The front of McGuire’s car extended onto the tracks.

12/11/1943 - Mrs. Blaine Anderson of Dayton RD 3 was reported recuperating from injuries received when she was struck on the head, bound, and gagged by an unknown assailant. Cpl. Raymond A. Blythe of the State Police was told by the woman’s husband that he found Mrs. Anderson bound and gagged when he returned to the family home from Dayton.

12/11/1943 - Handel’s oratorio, “The Messiah”, will be sung by the Kittanning Choral Society in the First Methodist Church.

12/11/1933 - Mrs. Catherine Mohney, Armstrong Co.’s oldest resident, died at her home in Ford Cliff. She was 105 years, 2 months, and 22 days old.

12/11/1933 - Kittanning and vicinity was covered with a 4 inch fall of snow, tying up car traffic and causing numerous skidding accidents.

12/11/1928 - For the 2nd time, the temperatures dropped here to 10 degrees.

12/11/1928 - John Brown, 48, died at his home in Rural Valley.
