12/5/1968 – Local telephone company, Mid-Continent Telephone Corp, announced today they are adding a data processing center here at their headquarters at 210 Arch Street. They expect to employee 20 people in the center.

12/5/1963 - An estimated 1000 students in 3 Apollo schools were evacuated in an orderly fashion yesterday afternoon when a male caller touched off a bomb scare. A check by police, firemen, and an Army bomb disposal unit failed to turn up any evidence of one.

12/5/1958 - Robert B. Roach, 47, owner-operator of East Brady Lumber Co., died yesterday afternoon at his East Brady home.

12/5/1958 - Howard Zerick, present policeman of Manorville, has submitted his resignation effective 8 December. Any Manorville resident may apply in writing for the position, and a replacement will be selected on 8 December.

12/5/1958 - The kill toll of Armstrong Co.’s rapidly increasing deer population mounted again today bringing the total reported to more than 90. Local hunters who less than a dozen seasons back were forced to head to the northern mountains in pursuit of the whitetails, now find the most rewarding hunting grounds almost literally in their own backyards.

12/5/1953 - Kittanning and the rest of the Allegheny Valley north of the Kiskiminetas River were faced with possible loss of the last 2 trains of a sharply curtailed passenger service. PA Railway, which in one peak era served the area with a total of 26 passenger trains daily, has made application to the state Public Utility Commission to discontinue its Pittsburgh-East Brady run.

12/5/1938 - Two Youngstown, OH women suffered severe lacerations about the head when their car skidded on Indiana Hill ice, a mile east of Kittanning. The car demolished a coal shed and nosed over the edge of a bank against a tree.

12/5/1933 - Lloyd B. Mohney, Kittanning druggist was elected president of the Kittanning school board at a brief session in the Central School Building office. Dr. F.C. Monks was elected vice president.

12/5/1928 - The office building, shop, and supply house of Mohawk Mining Co., near Applewold, were destroyed by a fire with an estimated loss of $15,000-$20,000.
