Councilman Joe Kiehlmeier voiced his opposition to Chairman of Finance Andy Peters suggesting a garbage fee increase of $2 when no budget was available for review.
Kittanning Borough Council approved a tentative budget at their public meeting last night. However, there was no budget presented and no amounts of revenue or expenditures were discussed.
Chairman of Finance Andy Peters said he wanted Council to consider a $2 increase on garbage fees that would specifically be placed in reserve for future road paving.
“I’ve talked to people and they don’t feel the $2 increase would be a problem because they want streets paved,” Peters said.
Councilman Joe Kiehlmeier objected.
“You can’t keep going to well and asking residents to pay for it.”
Kiehlmeier said the Borough spent $1,500 for tar last Spring to seal the new pavement as a maintenance measure, but it never was completed.
“I don’t want us going to the residents to cover any more than they are covering. I want to see a budget before I pass it.”
Council has called a special meeting to pass the budget on Tuesday, December 18 at 6PM.
