***Here’s a different take on “the whole enchilada” just ahead of Thursday’s Thanksgiving Day preparations: Let your garlic rest.Don’t toss whole cloves into hot oil. Instead, mince the garlic and set it aside for 10 minutes. Chopping will start a chemical reaction, producing a healthy compound that reduces the risk of cancer and heart disease. Added bonus? Your kitchen will smell heavenly, and don’t forget to listen for more great intel on The John Tesh Radio Show!
***When everyone around you seems to share the latest “bug” making the rounds, what can you do to keep from coming down with it yourself? Here’s your cheat sheet: According to Dr. Neal Schachter from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, be sure to take some Vitamin D. A Vitamin D deficiency increases our chances of getting upper respiratory infections, and a third of us are deficient right now. Doctors recommend somewhere between 600-1000 international units a day. Then, you may want to follow that up with a pop of zinc. The research isn’t as strong for zinc as for Vitamin D, but some studies have found that taking zinc lozenges at the first sign of a sniffle can help you recover more quickly, and cut the duration of your cold. And the same holds true for garlic. Although it isn’t as strong in capsule form, research shows garlic can still shorten the length of a cold, and may even prevent one. What you can skip? Echinacea. Study after study shows it doesn’t prevent colds or help us recover more quickly.
***Need help with your sleep? Try jasmine. Jasmine can help you sleep at night and be more alert the next day. People exposed to the scent of jasmine - even if it’s so faint that they’re not aware of it - sleep more soundly, are less restless at night, feel less anxiety when they wake up and are more alert - well into the next day.
