Local Lodge Catered to Kids During Holiday Event

Kids and parents gathered at the Elks Lodge home on North Water Street last Friday for special holiday food and activities.

The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge #203 on North Water Street opened their doors to the public during Friday night’s holiday festivities in Kittanning.

Continuing the theme of Light-Up Kittanning Night, the Elks transformed their dining room into a “A Candyland Christmas”.

Quinn Lavrinc from Mars is awarded one of the Candyland games by Cindy Calarie. Her grandfather, Don Carley, and her father is a member of the lodge.

“We decided this year since it is Candyland Christmas, we decided to have kids in this room and let them have fun,” event coordinator Nadine Miller said.

She said that initially there were about 50 kids participating in the event, but that number increased as the evening continued.

“A lot of them are members with their children and some of them came in off the street and we are so happy they are all here. It’s all about kids and Christmas. Every kid gets a ticket. And every so often we call a number and give away Candyland games. They all get candy. We have free hot dogs, hot chocolate, popcorn.”

Member Cindy Calarie thanked the various members that donated for the event.

“This was all donated by Elks members,” Calarie said. “Everything you see here is a donation by us. We spend for charity. That’s what we do. We have funds for Christmas. This is open to the public. This is our first year of doing this and I’m sure it won’t be our last for Light Up Night. We will continue the same tradition for years.”
