At last week’s public meeting, East Franklin Township supervisors voted to hire a part-time road employee. They agreed on the wage: $18.35 per hour. They agreed the employee would begin in November.
However, little is known about this mystery road worker because supervisors declined to state his name.
When asked if they already had an individual in mind for the job, Supervisor Chairman Barry Peters indicated that they did.
“We’re not going to advertise,” Peters said, indicating they already had selected someone. Peters said the individual had not previously worked for the township in the past.
Supervisor David Stewart said the supervisors selected the individual from a resume they “already had on hand.”
When asked when the person would begin work, Peters responded, “Probably November.”
Peters indicated that because the person was part-time, the individual would not be entitled to any benefits. He said that a part-time employee is a person who works less than 40 hours. When asked how many hours the individual would be working, Peters said, “It depends on how much snow we get,” leading one to believe the road worker’s primary job would be snow plowing.
Stewart indicated the person was a resident of East Franklin Township and had the ability to operate multiple types of equipment.
