10/26/1968 – Fire men were elected to directorship of the Kittanning-Ford City Area Chamber of Commerce: G. Robert Davis, division sales rep of West Penn Power; Samuel J. Friedland, owner of Friedlands Market in Ford City; G. Paul Helm, plant manager of Union Carbide, Linde Division; James McClister, attorney; and George B. Morda, owner of the Cadet Restaurant.

10/26/1968 – Jack Norton, 40, of Kittanning is listed in fair condition following an accident that claimed the life of a teenage boy. Norton suffered a fractured nose, fractured ribs, and cuts, when the car he was driving was struck by a car driven by 17-year-old Frederick Danik of Freeport. Danik’s car skidded on wet pavement, striking Norton’s car. Danik was thrown through the top of his convertible automobile upon impact.

10/26/1968 – The Rev. Charles Ribick, pastor of Holy Trinity Church in Ford City is convalescing at his parish home following open heart surgery at Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. He spent 18 days at the clinic and now is home following a daily walking regimen.

10/26/1967 – Eight long-time members of Kittanning Hose Company #1 were honored at a testimonial dinner at Kittanning Elks Home, North Water Street. Gerald Shuster presented a small token of appreciation to Charles Hurst, Ed Blaney, Fred Lindeman, Jr., Howard Shuster, James Ellermeyer, Harold George, Henry Milson, and James Brodhead.

10/26/1963 - Reesedale’s newly built million-dollar plus highway about 12 miles northwest of Kittanning underwent a semi-final inspection by Dept. of Highways official ones yesterday- far ahead of its scheduled finish date.

10/26/1963 - An expected sharp increase in coal use for fueling the new Keystone Generating Station near Elderton is a factor in the announced closing of its Lucerne power plant, Rochester and Pittsburgh Coal Co. said today. Future power for R and P mines will be supplied by PA Electric Co. (Penelec) the announcement said.

10/26/1953 - An appreciative audience filled the First United Methodist Church last night for an hour long concert of sacred music sung by the Crucible Steel Male Chorus of Midland, under the direction of Lyle D. Hough.

10/26/1953 - A dance featuring a well known “hillbilly” band will highlight the Halloween celebration of Hose Co. #6 firemen. Slim Bryant and his Georgia Wildcats, who appear regularly on district radio and television, will play for the dance which will follow the traditional mummers’ parade thru downtown Kittanning.

10/26/1953 - A 69 year old rural Ford City man was killed as traffic accidents on Western PA highways took the lives of at least 13 people during the weekend. James M. Wright of Ford City RD 1 died at Butler Co. Memorial Hospital of multiple injuries a little over 12 hours after the car in which he was driving crashed into another one at the Butler Co. intersection on Routes 66 and 268 (Kepples Corners).

10/26/1948 - Injuries received by Paul Robert Hornberger, 33, of Adrian RD 1, resulted in his death whilst operating a power shovel on the Leet Property a mile west of Reesedale. He was employed by the Heffelfinger Coal Co. and was working alone at the time of the accident.

10/26/1948 - Ford City- A military ball for members of Co. C 112th Infantry Regiment of the PA National Guard, will be held in the Armory Building.

10/26/1943 - A prominent Kittanning resident and cashier of the National Kittanning Bank, Frank S. Knoble of 129 Rebecca St., died at the home of a sister, Mrs. L. C. Wick of 408 N McKean St.

10/26/1943 - Pete Mazak,18, of Springdale, right end on the Springdale HS football team is a patient in Citizen’s General Hospital, New Kensington, due to injuries received as he tripped leaving the field at the conclusion of the game with Ford City.

10/26/1938 - Plans for a community wide Armistice Day observance in Kittanning, the first one since the day was declared a national holiday, moved nearer completion when representatives of local ex-servicemen’s organizations elected Harvey Shaffer as general chairman.

10/26/1938 - The Rev. and Mrs. H. M. Foster of Yatesboro, who will leave the early part of the next week for a visit in North Carolina, Mississippi, Georgia, and Tennessee were honored at a farewell party in Yatesboro Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Foster has been pastor of the Yatesboro Presbyterian Church for 12 years.

10/26/1933 - During the afternoon sessions of the Armstrong Co. School Director’s Association, officers of the association were elected for the coming year. S.A. Mechling of Valley Twp. was named president.

10/26/1933 - Work on one-story addition quarters by the county treasurer has been nearly completed. Electricians were wiring the annex today.

10/26/1928 - Eggs advanced in price to 50 cents per dozen on the wholesale market price list today. Butter remained at 40 cents per pound.

10/26/1928 - Schools Superintendent Q.G. Vincent of Ford City has been appointed State Director of the PA Inter-High School Library, Debate, and Musical League in the western section. The object of the league is improvement of library, debate, and musical activities amongst high schools in Pennsylvania.
