Ford City Considers Voting Options

Borough Solicitor Alyssa Golfieri explained options for changing voting precincts in Ford City.

Changes to how and where Ford City voters will vote is still being considered by Borough Council.

Armstrong County Director of Elections Jennifer Bellas last month requested that Council consider doing away with two precincts in each of Ford City’s north and south district.

Borough Solicitor gave some other options at Monday night’s work session that included doing away with north and south and vote “at large.” She said that the number of council seats would move to seven rather than the current six seats now available.

During an open discussion with residents in attendance at the meeting, most residents seemed to favor leaving the north and south districts intact.

“If it’s not broke, don’t try to fix it,” Councilwoman Beth Bowser said.

Golfieri said rules for boroughs less than 4,000 and those over 4,000 are different. Right now, Ford City sits at just under 4,000 and that could change

with the next 2020 census.
Bellas said last month that not only is it financially prudent to make changes, it is also difficult to get poll workers. Changing to a north and south only would be a cost savings because there would not need to be the amount of poll workers currently required.
