Township Denies Rumors of Disbanding Police Department

East Franklin Secretary Debra Cornman said discussion on the police department is not on this Thursday’s meeting agenda.

East Franklin Township officials are calling it “rumors” that they will attempt to disband their police department at the supervisors’ meeting this Thursday.

According to Secretary/Treasurer Debra Cornman, the Township is currently in labor negotiations with Police Chief William Evans.

“There are three things that could happen, depending on the result of the negotiations. We could make another contract (with Evans), consider disbanding police force, or join with someone else (another municipal police department).”

Cornman confirmed that there had been a previous discussion with North Buffalo.

“We did study in 2004. It’s in with the State. It doesn’t mean we are going to do it,” she said.

Cornman said she does not expect the topic to come up at meeting on Thursday and that it is not on the agenda for discussion. She has had “many” phone calls from residents asking about the rumor. The meeting begins at 6PM.
