9/24/1968 – Two Leechburg Union School Board Directors resigned, one formally in a dispute over the hiring of a third school board member to an administrative position in the district. Resigning were John Damiano and Silvio Odasso, angered over the hiring of Robert E. Nigro as assistant supervising principal at $13,200 per year. Nigro is the twin brother of Leechburg High School Principal John Nigro. Minutes of the August 13 board meeting showed that while Robert Nigro was a school board member, he seconded a motion calling for the creation of the new supervisory job. Then one month later, he resigned from the board and was hired by his former colleagues on a 4-2 vote.
9/24/1968 – The Russell Rupp property along Route 422 in Manor Township will be used as an auxiliary postal facility for the Kittanning Post Office. It has been leased for three years. The facility was leased when it was determined that overcrowded conditions at the Kittanning Post Office made it impossible to handle the increasing flow of mail.
9/24/1968 – Eleanor Jane McNees, daughter of Mrs. Mary P. McNees of Vine Street, Kittanning, is living in Sweden as a participant of the Rotary Student Exchange Program. She arrive in Sweden in early August, took an intensive two-week language course, and then began residence in the town of Karlsborg. She graduated Kittanning High School with honors in June, but chose to participate in the Rotary program rather than enter college immediately.
9/24/1968 - The Slate Lick Presbyterian Church in Worthington RD2 has a minister after the absence of one for several months. Rev. Palmer W. Manson recently returned from Puerto Rico where he served for the past four years to an English speaking congregation. He is a native of Oil City, PA.
9/24/1963 - Christ and Emmanuel Lutheran Churches of Kittanning Twp., in preparation for the new Lutheran Church in America Parish Education Curriculum, this week started an extensive teacher training program to effect the transition scheduled for 13 Sept., 1964. On that day Lutheran congregations will begin using the new education program.

9/24/1953 - Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Buffington and their 6 month old wee one are making their temporary home with Mrs. Buffington’s father, Robert Tarr of Bridgeburg. This is following yesterday’s fire that completely leveled their home on the Reesedale road, near French’s Corners.
9/24/1953 - Ford City- School board members and the superintendent of Ford City schools will take part in a public meeting slated for 8pm in the Ford City HS auditorium. “The purpose of the meeting”, school superintendent P.N. Marsh said, “is to acquaint the public with the issues dealing with the proposed union school operation”.
9/24/1948 - Two workmen were killed when they were caught under a fall of rock in the Kaylor mine of Pittsburgh Limestone Corporation. The victims were Charles McClafferty, 54, of Rimersburg, and James Arthur Guthrie, 48, of Brady’s Bend.

9/24/1938 - Because flood waters played havoc in business districts of many New England towns, Works 4 of the Pittsburgh Plate Glass Co., Ford City, shipped 3 carloads of store front material into the area Thursday. 3 more carloads were sent out on Friday.
9/24/1938 - A brighter outlook in buisiness conditions was indicated as 100 men returned to work Thursday at Harbison-Walker Refractories Co. plant in Templeton. Operations were resumed for the first time since last May.
