The garage of the municipal building for Manor Township is in the process of being converted into additional space for the police department.
At the Wednesday, September 19 work session of township supervisors, a contract was approved with Boback Construction to finish the inside remodeling at a cost of $5,040.
“It is an office build-out,” explained master carpenter Scott Boback, who along with several other workers, was on the job first thing yesterday morning. “It includes installation of a shower room, and finishing of drywall.”
The supervisors had approved the remodeling in April 2018. A concrete block evidence room was added and garage doors were removed. However, the project seemed to lag without a contractor to finish the work.
“They had started this project months ago,” Boback said. “Whenever I came in, I did some framing (where the garage doors used to be), insulation, and a little bit of basic wiring,”
Bobeck said that there was no discussion on putting new flooring over the garage concrete floor that currently exists. There was also no discussion of changing the heating system. Currently, the garage is heated by overhead forced air heaters.
Bobeck expects the completion of the project to be approximately two weeks.
Bobeck has been a carpenter for over 30 years, running his own business in Ford City for the past 17 years.
In May 2018, supervisors began negotiating to purchase the house and property at 305 Byron Street, directly across from the municipal building. Eventually the supervisors plan on demolishing the current structure and building a pole barn style of garage to be used to house township vehicles. The remainder of the property would be used for overflow parking for the municipal building.
